Abstract

858,106. Hydraulic lifting-jacks. OLIVIER, H. Oct. 7, 1958 [Dec. 16, 1957], No. 31957/58. Class 78 (3). A cylinder A forming the lifting head of a jack is raised by reciprocation of a piston B in a stationary cylinder E surrounded by a reservoir F. During the down-stroke of handle I, the cylinder A and piston B are raised, valve C remains closed, and valve H opens to allow oil to flow from the reservoir F into cylinder E; whilst during the up-stroke, the piston B is lowered, valve H closes and oil flows from cylinder E into piston B thereby extending the cylinder A relative to the piston B by an amount equal to the stroke of the piston. Lowering is effected by opening a pedal-actuated valve O, thereby permitting oil to return from the piston to the reservoir.
