Abstract

The invention comprises dyestuffs of the formula: <FORM:0858070/IV (c)/1> where Pc is a metal-containing or metal-free substituted or unsubstituted phthalocyanine radical, R is the radical of a diazonium compound and n is 1 to 8, and a process for making them by reacting a derivative of a phthalocyanine, which is substituted by 1-8 acetoacetic acid amide radicals via methylene bridges, with a diazonium compound or compounds. The phthalocyanines containing acetoacetic acid amide radicals are made by reacting metal-containing or metal-free phthalocyanines which are substituted by 1-8 aminomethyl groups with diketene so that all or part of the aminomethyl groups are converted. Formation of the dyestuffs may be conducted on the fibre and stabilized diazo components may be used such as fast-dyeing salts, nitrosamines or diazoamino compounds. In examples, cotton fabric is (2) padded with an alkaline aqueous alcoholic solution of octa-(acetoacetamido-methyl) copper phthalocyanine and then treated with aqueous solutions of the diazonium salts of various amines to obtain blue, green and brown shades; (3) printed with an alkaline paste containing hexa-(acetoacetamido-methyl) copper phthalocyanine, if desired side by side with pastes containing other coupling components, and the fabric is developed with the solution of a diazonium salt to give green and other shades; (4) printed with an alkaline paste containing octa-(acetoacetamido-methyl) copper phthalocyanine and a diazo or diazoamino compound and developed by drying and acid-steaming to give green shades; and (6) padded with an aqueous alcoholic alkaline solution of hexa: (aceto-acetamido-methyl) nickel phthalocyanine or of octa (acetoacetamido-methyl) copper phthalocyanine and then treated with a diazonium salt to give green shades.
