Abstract

Tiled structure elements, e.g. walls, floors and similar surfaces, are formed by affixing the tiles, e.g. ceramic tiles, to the surface with a layer, e.g. 1/8 to 1/4 thick, of a cementitious composition comprising 97,5% to 99,5% by weight, of Portland cement and from 0,5% to 2,5% by weight of methyl cellulose or an alkali metal salt of carboxymethyl cellulose, the composition being rendered plastic with water, applied to the surface, and the tiles pressed thereonto, wetting of the tiles and the surface before hand being unnecessary. Up to 50% by weight of the cement in the composition may be substituted by siliceous or aluminous fillers. According to the Provisional Specification plasticisers, e.g. calcium hydrate, and substances which delay setting, e.g. calcium stearate may be incorporated in the cementitious composition.
