Abstract
A composition for improving the hardness, adhesion, and resistance to wear, weathering and acids, of articles made from cement mortars or lime mortars, consists of a powdery mixture of 50 to 95% by weight sodium carbonate and 5 to 50% by weight tartaric acid. The mortars to which the composition is added necessarily include sand. In examples mortars are described containing: 1 part composition, 8 parts cement and 6 to 8 parts sand; 1 part composition, 2 1/2 parts lime and 7 to 12 1/2 parts sand; lime mortar, 0,17 to 32% by weight sodium carbonate and 0,017 to 17% by weight tartaric acid. About 1 part of water is added to each part of the dry mixtures. In another example 10 to 1000 parts by weight of the composition may be added to 3000 parts by weight of lime mortar.
