Abstract

857,266. Electron beam apparatus. TESLA, NARODNI PODNIK. Jan. 30, 1958, No. 3137/58. Class 39(1). In a device for producing a number of carrier frequencies, particularly for use in multichannel telephony, an electron beam, emitted by an axially-extendng cathode K, is rotated magnetically at a fundamental frequency over a screen S<SP>1</SP> arranged concentrically around the cathode and provided with rows of openings, each row lying opposite a corresponding anode A, so that a plurality of harmonics of the fundamental frequency are derived separately and simultaneously. The anodes are preferably screened from each other by grounded metallic rings ST. The electron beam emitted by the cathode over its entire length may have one or two wings and may be rotated by a magnetic field generated by means of a twophase coil system, Fig. 2, not shown. A regular impulse sequence is created on each anode the frequency of which is the product of the fundamental frequency and the number, n, of openings in the corresponding row of the screen S<SP>1</SP> for a single beam, and for a double beam if n is odd ; or half this product for a double beam if n is even. By suitably selecting the shape of the openings in the screen S<SP>1</SP> it is possible to obtain current waves of approximately sinusoidal or other desired form, e.g. trapezoidal.
