Abstract
857,209. Controllers. PILLIN Ltd., J. B., and EARLY, K. C. April 23, 1959 [July 30, 1958], No. 24587/58. Class 38 (3). When a hand lever 17 opens a petrol-delivery valve, the pressure in pipe 15 falls and a pressure-responsive switch 21 is closed to energize coil 24. This operates a time-delay escapement mechanism 26 and closes a contact 27, whereby a starter 13 energizes motor 11 for driving pump 10. The contact 27 is kept closed, despite intermittent actuation of the switch 21 due to variations in the fluid-pressure, until the hand-operated valve is closed and a steady pressure is built up in the delivery pipe so that the switch 21 is opened continuously for a predetermined period. In this manner, the motor and starter are not subjected to rapidly fluctuating current which may cause over-heating. When the delivery nozzle 16 is not in use it is placed ina socket and a cam-operated switch 28 is opened to stop the motor.
