A device for holding a sliding sash window in various open positions or closed consists of a first attachment for fixture to the cross-bar of the lower part of the window and comprising an arm 4 pivoted at one end to a fixing bracket 5 and having near the other end a flat projecting lip 6, and a second attachment for fixture to a side of the upper part of the window and comprising a metal strip formed with a number of slots 1 any one of which can be engaged by the lip on the first attachment.
