In a furnace, fuel is fed by a ram or screw over a feeding edge 2 and the blowing nozzle 5 which may provide a sprinkler action is kept clean by a scraper 4 arranged to sweep over the blowing table 3. The scraper 4 may have a smaller radius of curvature than the blowing table 3, or may be flat, meeting a flat blowing table at an acute angle. The scraper may be fixed or pivoted to its driving arm, and may be resilient, to increase the scraping pressure.
