The pressure produced in the pipe-line 1 by a fan is controlled by turning automatically a shaft 3 carrying a disc 4. The shaft 3 extends into a casing 6 and is connected by a quick thread 7 to a sleeve 8 secured to a diaphragm 9 which forms the end of the casing. The action of the diaphragm is adjusted by a spring 10 which is connected to a screw 13. A pipe 5 connects the casing to that part of the pipe-line which is between the disc and the fan. The diaphragm may be parallel to the shaft 3 and connected to it by a crank or rack-and-pinion mechanism.
