Abstract

856,264. Chucks. OSBORN & CO. Ltd., S. Sept. 7, 1959 [Sept. 9, 1958], No. 28937/58. Class 83 (3). A chuck comprises a body 2 and a stop 4 formed on a collar 5, the latter having flats on its periphery which engage corresponding flats in the body 2 and on an internally-screwed sleeve 11 to prevent relative rotation of the stop and sleeve, the sleeve being moved axially of the body to actuate a collet 18 through a second sleeve 14. In operation, the shank 26 of a tool is screwed into the sleeve 11 until it abuts the stop 4. Further rotation moves the sleeve to the right, thus closing the collet by the second sleeve 18, the collet being held against outward axial movement by a nut 24.
