Abstract

856,177. Valves. BROEN, P. R. Jan. 1, 1959 [Jan. 9, 1958], No. 96/59. Class 135. A mixing valve for hot and cold water &c. comprises a pair of inlets 3, 4 with ports 7, 8 controlled by valve members 9, 10 connected to a common operating yoke 15, and a rotary plug valve member 21 which has porting 27 extending over half its circumference and communicating with a semi-circular port 28 in the bottom end of the plug for making connection with either of a pair of outlets 5, 6 through sector shaped ports 33, 34 in a sealing washer 24 against which the plug is pressed by a spring 25 bearing on a ring 26 which serves as a guide between the spindle 22 of the plug and a hollow spindle 16 on which the yoke 15 is threaded. A knob 23 rotates the spindle 22 to select both the proportions of hot and cold water in the mixture and the outlet from which the mixture is delivered. A knob 17 rotates the hollow spindle 16 to adjust the quantity delivered and is loaded by a spiral spring 47 which closes the valve members 9, 10 when the knob is released. Each of the valve members 9, 10 consist of a mainly cylindrical body with a downward extension carrying a sealing ring 11 which is retained by a head 12. The valve members 9, 10 have concave parts cut in their cylindrical surfaces to mate with the exterior of the plug 21. The plug 21 carries a pin (not shown) which coacts with a fixed niting washer 35 whereby it may be turned between a position in which a mixture in any desired proportion is delivered through the outlet 5 to a position in which delivery takes place through the outlet 6, a slightly raised portion of the niting washer creating a resistance to rotation so that an operator is made aware of the transition from delivery from one outlet to delivery from the other. In a modification only one outlet is provided.
