Abstract

855,962. Moulding cellular materials. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. Sept. 10, 1957 [Nov. 30, 1956], No. 36621/56. Class 87(2). An article of foam rubber or other resilient cellular material is formed in an aperture 13 in a mask 12 provided in moulding means 11. As shown, a mask 12 having three apertures 13 of different shapes is located in a mould 11 the base of which is provided with bosses 14, some of which are accommodated in apertures or cavities formed in the underside of the mask 12. The moulding means may alternatively comprise a conveyer belt in conjunction with one or more doctor blades and, if necessary, a pair of side belts. The moulding means, or at least their actual moulding surfaces, may be of metal or resilient flexible material. The mask 12 itself may be moulded in the mould 11, using a vulcanizable composition, the apertures 13 being formed by means of space-preserving members (not shown) of wood, metal or plaster.
