Abstract

1,182,134. Moulding cellular articles. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO. Ltd. 2 May, 1967 [2 May, 1966], No. 20154/67. Heading B5A. In the moulding of articles of cellular material e.g. PVC, an insert member 14 of porous material is used to absorb excess gases generated by the blowing agent. The insert 14 may be of porous stainless steel, porous bronze or "Teflon" (Registered Trade Mark). As shown, a shoe bottom is moulded on to a lasted upper S by injecting through a sprue passage 12 and a matching aperture 12<SP>1</SP> in the insert 14. Some of the air in the mould cavity and generated gases escape through the insert 14 and through rents (not shown) in the mould assembly.
