Abstract
855,787. Conveyer belts. FENNER & CO. Ltd., J. H. March 11, 1958 [March 11, 1957], No. 7997/57. Class 78 (1). In a conveyer belt of the kind comprising a fabric base and an outer layer of rubber or plastic, e.g. polyvinyl chloride, some of the threads of the fabric, prior to weaving, are given a surface application of a solid,- non- hygroscopic, electrically-conductive material, e.g. graphite, to render the belt electricallyconductive and thereby prevent it from accumulating static electricity. The application is preferably continuous along any particular thread and the proportion of treated thread used in the fabric is about 3% by weight. To ensure wide distribution of the treated threads it is suggested that one ply out of twelve plies of the weft and in addition one out of six of the surface warp threads be so treated. In addition, binder yarns may also be so treated and placed in the belt at a pitch of five inches. The coating may also be impregnated with a relatively small amount of carbon black.
