Abstract
855,071. Feeding to carding engines; creels. DEERING MILLIKEN RESEARCH CORPORATION. Dec. 3, 1956 [Dec. 1, 1955], No. 36901/56. Classes 120(1) and 120(2) [Also in Group XVI]. Apparatus for receiving rolls of textile material comprises a sheet of flexible material 26 (e.g. canvas) secured along one end to a roller 24 which is mounted on a support 22, means for rotating the roller, and means on a second support 20 for releasably securing the other end of the sheet on a line spaced from the roller. As shown, supports 20, 22 are on the side frame members 13, 15 of a carding engine above the fluted cradle roller 17. The free end of sheet 26 is provided with eyelets 27 engaging with pins 30 on a shaft 28 fixed to support 20, and a pawl 33 prevents rotation of the roller 24 while a lap roll 36 is dropped onto the sheet. The pawl is then released and roller 24 allowed to rotate under control of a handle 34; as the sheet un- winds, lap 36 is lowered, the lappins 38 riding down supports 22 until they rest on lugs 40. The sheet is unwound further and its end freed from pins 30, whereupon it is rewound onto roller 24 and repositioned about roll 36 for reception of the next roll. The lowered roll is moved into feeding position on roller 17 by pushing the pins 38 off lugs 20 and into slots 16.
