854,717. Making radiators. SVENSKA AKTIEBOLAGET GASACCUMULATOR. Feb. 11, 1959 [Dec. 9, 1958], No. 4746/59. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). In a method of making sheet-metal radiators having flow and connecting ducts 14, 15, these are pressed in the web 1, which is joined to another pressed, or a plane, web to complete the radiator. As depicted, a pair of webs 1, 2 is passed over idle or feed rolls 3, 4 to a die having on its front and back faces at least one lateral duct-forming rib 8 joining axial ductforming ribs 9. Movable dies 6, 7 with recesses for the ribs 8, 9 press the webs against the central die between feed-steps of the webs. Additional corrugations 16 are formed by ribs 10 with the excess material resulting from forming the ducts 14. Rolls 18, engaging the undeformed edges 40 of the webs, bring the formed webs together for spot-welding by a tool 20 having a counterpart on the other side of the webs. The edges 40 are welded together by roller-electrodes 23, 24, and appropriate lengths of the radiator belt are severed automatically or manually by electric, or flame, welding which also seals the severed ends. Instead of forming ducts in both halves of the radiator, one may be left plane. More than two webs may be used if extra elements are required on the radiator.
