Abstract

1323586 Making radiators; welding by pressure; punching AGA-PLATFORADLING AB 11 Aug 1970 [22 Aug 1969] 38587/70 Headings B3A B3R and B3W A method of making radiators from two or more strips 12, 13 comprises pressing ducts into the strips, spot welding the strips together, cutting the assembled strips and seam welding their edges, such that either during or after the pressing operation at least one strip is provided with holes into which sleeves 21, Fig. 3, are welded. The strips 12, 13 are drawn from reels (1), Fig. 1 (not shown), through a straightening machine (2) and press (3), which forms the ducts and is also provided with a feed mechanism (3a). The shaped strips are fed to a punching machine 4 where a sleeve 21 provided with a cutting edge 22 is forced through the strip 12 by a press mandrel 23. The sleeve is guided by spring loaded guides 24 and the scrap 27 falls through an opening in a die 26. The sleeve 21 is provided with a welding edge 28, which is welded to the strip by electrodes 30, 31, of a welding machine 5. The strips are then positioned relative to each other by a pair of jaws 16 and as these jaws open, a second pair 19 closes. The latter jaws are moved by cylinders 20 to feed the strips to a spot welding machine (7), Fig. 1, and from there to a cutting machine (8), which cuts the welded strips into radiator blanks (14). The sides and ends of the blanks are seam welded in welding machines (9), (10).
