Abstract

1,061,260. Making panel radiators; corrugating. M. SIGMUND. Jan. 3, 1966 [Oct. 2. 1964], No. 40321/64. Headings B3A and B3Q. A die structure, for use in a press which forms metal sheets for panel radiators, includes die members 1, 2 and 3 on a base 4, one member 2 being adjustable so that a blank sheet 5 moved in steps longitudinally of the die structure can readily be formed into a radiator panel of desired width and length. Each die member includes a convex longitudinal portion 6, 12 or 16 from which extend lateral convex portions 7-9, 13-15 or 17-19. The lateral portions are each spaced an equal distance from adjacent portions, the portions 13-15, which are laterally adjustable with the member along guides 10, overlapping an imaginary line connecting the free ends of the other lateral portions. The sheet 5 is moved in steps of three lateral portions past the die structure and is progressively stamped, between the die structure shown and a corresponding female die structure, to form a panel having channels 20-22. The sheet is then passed through a second press having adjustable dies, for cutting notches at opposit sides of the sheet which are longitudinally spaced according to the length of panel desired. In a third press the edges of the channels 20 and 21 exposed by the notches are shaped to accept unions. The sheet is severed laterally between the notches and pairs of panels are welded together to produce panel radiators. The die members 1-3 can be differently disposed on the base, with a fixed central member and two adjustable outer members, and the sheet can be fed past the members in steps of less than three transverse channels.
