Abstract
854,656. Mixing fruit &c. in dough. OAKES CORPORATION, E. T. April 16, 1959 [April 17, 1958], No. 13003/59. Class 86 A continuous discharge machine for mixing fruit &c. into cake mixes has a hopper 12 for the fruit which is conveyed by a screw 11 to a mixing chamber 10. Dough or batter is introduced under pressure through the inlet 13, mixed with the fruit by the stirrer 16, and passed through the outlet 14. The screw and stirrer are carried on a rotatable shaft 17 which has an arm 35 for stirring the fruit in the hopper and at the lower end a plug-like member 18, a shaft 19 having an O-ring seal 25 and slinger disc 23, and a coupling 24 connected to a variable speed transmission 22. In the event of breakdown of the seal 25 oil is prevented from entering the mixing chamber by the dough's being under pressure; dough or batter leaking out is checked by the disc 23. The hopper 12 may be connected to the mixing chamber by a coupling 32.
