Abstract

A process for the preparation and recovery of chlorendic anhydride comprises reacting hexachlorocyclopentadiene and maleic anhydride in the presence of a chlorinated benzene liquid at ordinary temperatures as solvent at an elevated temperature, crystallizing the chlorendic anhydride so formed from the solvent and recovering the crystalline product so formed. Solvents mentioned include monochlorobenzene, o- and m-dichlorobenzene and mixtures thereof. Examples are furnished. Specification 614,931 is referred to.
