Abstract

854,405. Electric motors. FALLER, E., and FALLER, H., [trading as FALLER GEB.]. Jan. 11, 1957 [Jan. 12, 1956], No. 1177/57. Class 35. An A.C. miniature motor especially for driving a toy comprises a unidirectionally magnetized core member 3 of substantially circular cross-section pivotally and rotatably mounted near one end thereof and free at its other end to oscillate at right angles to its longitudinal axis, and surrounding with clearance a part of the core length a coil 1 which when A.C. energized causes the core free end to oscillate, the free end extending with clearance through an aperture in a member which engages the oscillatory free end whereby the latter executes a rolling rotary movement. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the apertured member is a brass tube 2, the magnetization is created by a stationary permanent magnet 6, and the core member 3, of magnetically-soft iron, drives a propeller or fan 4. In other embodiments the tube 2 and magnet 6 are omitted, and the core member 3 which is a permanent magnet, rolls around a flange at the end of the coil. The direction of rotation may be determined by a flat 9 in the tube or, it is stated, by making the member 3 non-circular.
