Abstract

The invention comprises mixtures of isomeric vat dyestuffs of the formulae: <FORM:0854162/IV (c)/1> and <FORM:0854162/IV (c)/2> in which R is hydrogen, alkoxy, benzoylamino, chlorobenzoylamino or fluorobenzoylamino and R1 is a benzene residue to which the two nitrogen atoms are attached in #s-position to each other. The dyestuffs are made by condensing a naphthoylenebenzimidazole peridicarboxylic acid or anhydride with an aminoanthraquinone of the formula: <FORM:0854162/IV (c)/3> in an organic solvent or diluent or in aqueous suspension at about 150 DEG to 300 DEG C., or by effecting the condensation in a solvent or diluent of low boiling point and heating the intermediate products at an elevated temperature, or by condensing the acid or anhydride with the corresponding 1- nitro -2- amino- or 1- amino -2- nitroanthraquinones and treating the product with a reducing agent at elevated temperature. The dyestuffs may be converted to the leuco-sulphuric esters by treatment with copper powder, alphapicoline and chlorosulphonic acid at 45 DEG C. and dye or print vegetable fibres red-brown to brown shades.
