Process for the production of a vat dye. It has been found that a valuable vat dye can be produced if 1- (4'-methoxybenzoylamino) -4-amino-6-bromoanthraehinone is aeylated with a reactive functional derivative of 3-methylsulfonbenzene-1-carboxylic acid.
The new dye dissolves in conc. Sulfuric acid with a brown color and dyes cotton from a brown vat in bluish red tones.
The 1- (4 'methoxybenzoylamino) -4-amino-, 6-bromoanthraquinone used as starting material for the present process can be represented as follows: 100 parts of 4-methoxybenzoyl-1-carboxylic acid are distributed in 1000 parts of dry nitrobenzene and after adding 113 parts of thionyl chloride and 1 part of pyridine, the mixture is stirred at 60 to 700 for two hours. 173 parts 1-: imino-4-nitro-6-bromoanthraquinone are then added and the mixture is stirred at 120-1301 for a further two hours.
The body, which falls in yellow crystals when cooling, is suctioned off, washed well with boiling alcohol and z. B. reduced in o @ dichlorobenzene with phenylhydrazine at 135 to 1400. Recrystallized from o-dichlorobenzene, 1- (41-Metlioxybenzoyl- - 4- amino - 6 - bromoanthraquinone forms small i amino) violet crystals.
The acid halides, in particular the acid chloride, can advantageously be used as reactive functional derivatives of 3-methylsulfonbenzene-1-carboxylic acid for the present process. The reaction of the aminoanthraquinone component with the acid component can be carried out in a manner known per se, expediently in high-boiling solvents such as chlorobenzene, dichlorobenzene, nitrobenzene or naphthalene at elevated temperatures.
Example: 14 parts of 3-methylsulfonbenzene-1-carboxylic acid are suspended in 250 parts of dry nitrobenzene and, after adding 11 parts of thionyl chloride and 0.5 part of pyridine, for one and a half hours at 110 to 1200 stirred.
30 parts of 1- (4'-methoxybenzoylamino) -4-amino-6-bromanthrar quinone are then added and the mixture is stirred for a further three hours at 125 to 1300. On cooling, the dye separates out in dark red crystals. It is suctioned off, washed well with boiling alcohol and dried.
