Abstract

2 - Diphenyl or b - naphthyl - 4 - chloro - 6 : 7 - phthaloyl-quinazolines are made by heating with phosphorus pentachloride in nitrobenzene 2-(41-phenyl) benzoylamino or (b -naphthoyl) amino-3-cyananthraquinone according to the process of Specification 642,129.ALSO:4 - Halogen - 6,7 - phthaloylquinazolines which contain in 2-position an aryl residue containing at least two aromatic six-membered rings are heated with 4 - aminoanthraquinone - 2 : 1(N) - acridones. Examples describe the heating in phenol of 4-aminoanthraquinone-2 : 1(N)-acridone with (1) 2-diphenyl-4-chloro-6,7-phthaloyl-quinazoline, and (2) 2-(21-naphthyl)-4-chloro-6,7-phthaloyl quinazoline. The product dyes cotton yellow-green shades, and a dyeing example is given. Other aryl residues specified for the 2-position of the quinazoline are pyrene, chrysene, fluoroanthene, and phenanthrene. Specifications 476,599 and 642,129, [Group IV (b)], are referred to.
