Abstract

854,147. Removing dust generated in industrial processes. ACME VENTILATING Ltd. April 30, 1959 [May 19, 1958], No. 15995/58. Class 8(2). A suction hood suitable for withdrawing dust-laden gas from an electric arc furnace 17, Fig. 1 (not shown), comprises an inner perforated skin 5, Fig. 3 having a plurality of offtake openings 7 and spaced from an outer imperforate skin 6 ; the hood being movable above and independently of the furnace. Between skins 5, 6 is located a compressed air duct 8 having an inlet 16 and an outlet slot 9 running along a lower edge of the hood thereby providing a downwardly directed curtain of air serving to confine the generated dust and fume. The perforations 7 in the inner skin 5 comprise diagonal slots and the hood is supported on an overhead roller track 11 and on bearing rollers 12 and a track 13 secured to a side wall of the furnace room.
