Class 63 [Also in Group XVII] An artificial tree, e.g. a Christmas tree, comprises a trunk member 22, Figs. 1, 2, formed with branchreceiving sockets 37 to receive removably branch members 24 of substantially equal length with their stems 36 at varying angles of inclination to the trunk axis, these angles decreasing in a direction approaching the apex of the tree and the outer extremities of the branches co-operating to define a substantially uniform conical configuration. Each branch comprises a rod 28, Fig. 8, upon which is wrapped a strip 29 of metallic foil having a continuous band portion 30 along one edge thereof, the remaining portion of the strip being feathered to produce fillets 31. The band portion 30 is helically wrapped around the rod 28 to cause the fillets 31 to feather out radially of the rod in all directions. The tips or other parts of some of the branches may be wrapped with a foil strip of contrasting colour to that of the rest of the branch. The sockets 37 are arranged in vertically spaced apart groups of three, the sockets of each group having the same angle of inclination and being equally spaced around the circumference of the trunk, while the vertical spacing of the groups and the differential in angular inclination between adjacent groups is greater approaching the upper end of the trunk. The sockets of each group are staggered in relation to those of adjacent groups, the arrangement being such that the sockets are arranged along a plurality of parallel helical lines developed on the circumference of the trunk, the lines being of non-uniform pitch with the greater pitch adjacent the upper end of the trunk.
