G. CASALS PROCESS FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF ARTIFICIAL LEAVES OF PLANTS Filed March 15. 1952 ]/v VENTOR. qflflil- & 30).:
BM W I m 9 Patented May 26, 1953 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE PROCESS FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF ARTIFICIAL LEAVES OF PLANTS Gabriel Casals, Vedado, Havana, Cuba Application March 15, 1952, Serial No. 276,777
1 Claim.
The object of the invention is to provide a process for the manufacture of artificial leaves of plants imitating the natural ones, with decorative purposes, by the utilization of materials in common use and of low cost and by the employment of a new way, extremely quick and simple, of obtaining the perfect conformation of the leaves.
An advantage of the invention is that it permits the production of an extensive variety of artificial leaves of plants, which faithfully reproduce the natural or fancy ones with the greatest efficiency and economy.
Further objects and advantages of the invention will be appreciated in the course of the present specification and claim, in connection with the accompanied drawings whereon the same reference characters indicate the same parts in all the views.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a plane upper view of the pattern of a leaf in accordance with the object of this invention.
Figure 2 is a plane upper view of a leaf formed in accordance with the object of this invention.
Figure 3 is a sectional view on line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a front view of the leaf represented on Figures 2 and 3; and
Figure 5 is a vertical cross section, in enlarged scale in accordance with line 55 of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawings, l indicates the pattern of a leaf, which maybe made of any suitable material, the dotted lines 2, 3 and 4 indicating the fold lines.
To carry out the object of this invention, the following must be made: Pattern l is folded 2 following the fold lines 2, 3 and 4 as indicated on Figure 1, placing fold line 3 to fold line 4. In the pleat thus formed, is secured, by any suitable means, an end of a rod or wire which may also be made of any suitable material, which constitutes the stalk of the leaf.
Having thus described the invention and the way of carrying out the same, it is evident that different modifications may be introduced therein without departing from the substantial idea thereof which is what is comprised within the scope of the following claim.
I claim:
Process for the manufacture of artificial leaves for plants, which comprises cutting a pattern in accordance with the shape of the leaf which reproduction is desired, folding that pattern along a line that follows the axis of the leaf, starting from a point situated approximately halfway the length of the leaf and in an opposite direction to its extremity, and along two lines that converge in that point, one on each side of that axis and which end in the periphery of the leaf; and secure in the pleat thus formed the end of a rod.
GABRIEL CASALS.
