Abstract

A composition comprising polyethylene, finely divided inorganic solids and anti-oxidants in the ratio of one hundred parts by weight of polyethylene to between ten and two hundred parts by weight of the inorganic solid or mixture of solids and between 0,01 and 2 parts of antioxidant, is irradiated with high energy radiation, particularly high energy electrons. The inorganic solid may be carbon black, silica or china clay, and the anti-oxidant may be N,N1 symmetrical di-b -naphthyl paraphenylene diamine.ALSO:A composition comprising polyethylene, finely divided inorganic solids and antioxidants in the ratio of one hundred parts by weight of polyethylene to between ten and two hundred parts by weight of the inorganic solid or mixture of solids and between 0.01 and 2 parts of anti-oxidant, is irradiated with high energy radiation, particularly high energy electrons. The inorganic solid may be carbon black, silica or china clay, and the antioxidant may be N,N1 symmetrical di-b -naphthyl paraphenylene diamine.
