A root-crop harvester comprises a share 3 oscillating in a plane parallel to the direction of motion of the machine and an endless elevator 23, behind the share, both driven by the power take-off of a tractor which carries the machine. The machine comprises a frame 1 attached to tractor draught-links 51 and provided with screw-adjusted ground-wheels 45 which control the working depth of the share. The share is channel-shaped and has upstanding side-plates 4 secured to a transverse tube 8 pivoted on an axle 2. An arm 9 fixed to the tube is rocked by a connecting rod 10 attached to an eccentric on a shaft 11 driven by a jointed shaft 15 connected to the tractor power take-off. The shaft 15 also drives the elevator 23 through a belt transmission 15A, 17, 20 to the rear spindle 21 of the elevator. The rear end of the arm 9 rocks a shaft 13A through a crank 13. The rocking shaft 13A oscillates a finger 40 about a vertical axis, through links 42, 43, 44, and oscillates a lever 30 and shaft 26 about the axis of the shaft 26, through the links 32, 32A. The finger 40 assists in breaking up lumps and spreading the excavated material evenly across the elevator. The oscillating shaft 26 carries arms 25 on the ends of which are rollers 29 which contact the undersurface of the elevator to oscillate it. Further rollers 36 on arms 34 alter the amplitude of oscillation of the elevator surface by lifting it away from the oscillating rollers 29, this action being controlled remotely by a lever 39. The side-plates 4 of the share are extended by inclined members 6 which converge inwardly and carry guide-bars 7. Specifications 735,719 and 735,721 are referred to.
