Abstract
852,853. Suction refuse collecting vehicles. JOHNSTON BROS. (ENGINEERING) Ltd., and GRAY, R. F. C. March 31, 1959 [March 27, 1958], No. 9831/58. Class 107 In a suction refuse collecting vehicle a tiltable refuse chamber 12 is exhausted by fans 15 and 16 driven by an auxiliary motor 14 and the refuse picked up by the suction nozzle 25 is carried into the chamber by conduits 24 and 23. The latter conduit extends into the chamber at an angle which directs the refuse away from the exhausting connection 19. Filters positioned between this connection and the chamber impart a helical motion to the airstream which is split into a clean air flow which passes to the exhausters and a flow of dust laden air which is returned to the chamber either directly or via a precipitation tank. The chamber is tilted about the pivot 51 by an hudraulic ram 52 and its contents are emptied via a door 34 which is controlled by a second ram 36. The hydraulic power is provided by a pump 17 driven from the engine 14. Openings into the chamber Fig. 1 (not shown) with removable sealing plates are provided for an auxiliary flexible suction hose and during the period the hose is in use the main conduit can ' be closed by a flap valve 29. The equipment may be driven from the vehicle's engine instead of the auxiliary motor 14.
