Abstract
852,146. Blending' fibres and spinning yarns; carding-engines and feeding-apparatus therefor. CARBORUNDUM CO. May 5, 1958 [May 13, 1957], No. 14238/58. Classes 120(1) and 120(3). A method of blending ceramic and carrier fibres comprises carding the carrier. fibres to form a web, opening a mass of ceramic fibres to make a plurality of small tufts, distributing the tufts over the web and carding the web and tufts to form a web of blended fibres. The mass of carrier fibres 7 pass through an automatic weighing self feed 5, a breast 14, a carder 20 with a doffer 24 which has cutters arranged to divide the web into four strips, and on to a lattice apron 28. The mass 32 of ceramic fibres passes through an automatic weighting self feed 33 with a spike apron 34 which divides the mass into tufts, through a weighting pan 40, a second feed 42 which further divides to tufts, down a slide with vanes 49 which forms four streams of tufts and on to the web on the apron 28. Each strip of carrier fibre is twisted through a right angle and passes under a deflected 30. The deflectors are arranged in tandem so that the strips and tufts form layers of a pile which is carried by a conveyer 51 to a second carding line similar to that described for the carrier fibres. The ceramic fibres may be of the silicates of aluminium, sodium-calcium, calcium, or sodium, or of calcium aluminates or glass. The carrier fibres may be of rayon, cotton, wool, asbestos, glass, or acrylic, tetrafluoroethylene, polyamide. or polyester fibres.
