A fifth-wheel mounted semi-trailer has a cable 50 which in conjunction with the struts 20 shortens the wheel-base to effect tipping and to increase the mechanical advantage of the system in the initial stages of tipping the cable 50 is led over guide pulleys 86, 96 and 34 so that tensioning of the cable produces an upward force on the trailer body 14. The fixed axle guide pulley 90 may be replaced by a guide pulley mounted in a block pivoted on the central longitudinal axis of the trailer..
