Abstract

851,677. Filters in series and in parallel. DAIMLER-BENZ A. G. April 27, 1959 [May 2, 1958], No. 14308/59. Class 46. Lubricating oil to be filtered introduced at 2 passes first through an edge filter element 3, which may be cleaned by a rotatable brush 4, in a chamber 3a, and then along a transfer passage 6a into a second chamber 6 housing fine-filtering cartridges 7<SP>1</SP>. These are secured to covers 7<SP>111</SP>. Filtrate flows along a passage 8 provided in the wall of the chamber 6, and then along a passage 9 provided in a wall common to the two chambers. The fine-filter cartridges 7<SP>1</SP> are by-passed, on clogging, by operation of a spring-pressed by-pass valve 10, whose stem thereupon closes a switch 11 to light a warning lamp. In Fig. 1 (not shown), fine filter cartridges 7, shorter than cartridges 7<SP>1</SP>, project downwards from covers which take the place of, and, are the same size as, the blanking closures 12<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 2, the apertures thus left on the right of chamber 6 being closed by blanking closures of the same size as the covers 7<SP>111</SP>.
