Abstract
Maleic anhydride is purified by contacting a gaseous mixture of crude maleic anhydride and a gas containing free oxygen with graphite or coke, at a temperature of 300 DEG -450 DEG C. It is particularly applicable to the purification of maleic anhydride prepared by passing benzene and an oxygencontaining gas over an oxidation catalyst, e.g. vanadium oxide.
