Abstract

851,442. Earth-excavating equipment. MIDWESTERN INDUSTRIES Inc. April 9, 1957 [April 9, 1956], No. 11460/57. Class 68(1). The side members 14, 16 of a rectangular frame 12 secured transversely of and to the rear of a tractor 10 comprise the upper portions of telescopic legs that stabilize the frame when an excavator unit, e.g. a shovel assembly secured by a vertical king post 60 on the frame is in use. The lower portions 54 of the legs slide within the side members 14, 16 and are raised and lowered by hydraulically actuated double-acting piston cylinder units 28, 36 disposed within and pivotally connected at 34, 44 to the portions of each side member. The telescoping portions are of non-circular cross-section and wear strips 56 are secured to the sides of the lower portions. A spiked plate 40 is pivotally secured at 44 to each lower portion.
