Abstract

1,023,175. Stabilizing device for excavators. J. C. BAMFORD (EXCAVATORS) Ltd. Sept. 25, 1963 [Sept. 27, 1962], No. 36661/62. Heading E1F. The sub frame 11, which is mounted on a tractor and carries an excavating bucket, shovel etc., on a vertically and horizontally pivotable boom 12 comprises extensible legs 15 which are stabilized by a ground engaging beam 16 pivotally connected between them, at least one such connection being a lost motion connection and the beam having downward projections. Beam 16 (Figs. 2, 4, not shown) is of channel section; with an additional rib (23) of V section and transverse plates (21) (22) on its underside, and plates (24), (26a) which bear round and slotted holes respectively to receive pins connecting beam 16 to legs 15. Figs. 5, 6 (not shown) illustrate how one end of the beam may extend beyond leg 15 to improve the stability of one end of sub frame 11 when the boom 12, which slides along beams 18, is set at that end. The beam 16 is reversed when ditching, for example, is subsequently performed on the other side of the tractor. Legs 15 are extended by hydraulic rams, the lost motion connection permitting different extensions to accommodate the beam to uneven ground or varying softness (Fig. 2).
