Abstract

The invention comprises hypoglycaemic sulphonamido thiadiazoles of the formula: <FORM:0851277/IV(b)/1> wherein R is ethyl, methoxy or ethoxy R1 is n- or iso-propyl, n-, iso-, sec- or tert-butyl or n- or iso-pentyl and their preparation by treating a 2-amino-5-alkyl-1 : 3 : 4-thiadiazole with the appropriate benzenesulphonyl chloride. Examples describe the preparation of sulpha-thiadiazoles of the above formula wherein R and R1 respectively have the values: CH3O, C4H9n; CH3O, C4H9 iso ; CH3O, C4H9 tert; CH3O, C5H11 n ; CH3O, C5H11 iso ; C2H5O, C4H9 tert and C2H5O, C4H9 n.ALSO:Hypoglycaemic sulphonamide preparations comprise a sulphonamido-thiadizaole of the formula: <FORM:0851277/VI/1> wherein R is ethyl, methoxy or ethoxy and R1 is n- or iso-propyl, n-, iso-, sec or tert-butyl or n- or iso-pentyl (see Group IV(b)) and a diluent.
