Abstract

A lubricant for use in the hot deformation of metals or alloys, and particularly in the hot extrusion of metals or alloys, comprises an anhydrous suspension of sugar and graphite in a mineral or vegetable oil or a fat. The metal may be coated with the lubricant just before engaging the extrusion die plate. The vegetable oil may be groundnut, linseed or palm oil, while the fat may be horse, beef or pork fat. In the examples, the preparation is described of suspensions in mineral, groundnut or linseed oil of cane or beet sugar and flake graphite, with or without colloidal graphite.
