918,724. Extruding. GREAT LAKES CARBON CORPORATION. Dec. 6, 1961 [Dec. 4, 1960], No. 43457/61. Class 83 (4). A process of cooling and supporting hot metal, particularly a length of aluminium, magnesium or their alloys emerging from an extrusion press, comprises sliding the metal over or through pre-formed porous graphite whose pores are filled with a waxy substance. The graphite may be artificial or electrographite, or a mixture of coke or carbon particles and pitch which has been baked and graphitized. The wax may be of mineral, vegetable, animal or insect origin or may be synthetic; it has a melting point of at least 40‹ C. preferably between 60‹ and 100‹ C. It is applied to the graphite body by soaking or impregnation under pressure or vacuum. The wax also acts as a lubricant for the sliding product. Specification 827,763 is referred to.
