Abstract

850,903. Mechanical toys. MULLER, W. H., [trading as SCHREYER & CO.]. March 25, 1959 [July 12, 1958], No. 10375/59. Class 132(3). [Also in Group XXIX] A mechanical toy comprises a part which is rotated by a motor, the connection between the motor and the said part including a fluid clutch. As shown, the drive from an electric motor 6 to the rear wheels 3 of a toy car is transmitted by a fluid clutch 9. The driven rotor of the clutch comprises a housing portion 11 provided with vanes 13, 14 and cemented at 12 to a further portion 10. The driving rotor comprises a dish-shaped member 16 having vanes similar to vanes 13, 14 and has a hub portion 18 which rotates freely within a hub 15 of the driven rotor ; a drive shaft 7 is secured to the housing portion 10. The clutch is partially filled with liquid, preferably an oil of high viscosity, to a level L. The slip of the clutch may be varied by alteration in a gap 17 between the two rotors. The gap is altered by moving the shaft 7 towards and away from a shaft 8 by means of a lever 20 engaging a collar 19. To increase power transmission through the clutch, additional vanes, ridges or grooves may be provided on the outer surface of the rotor member 16 and the inner surface of the housing portion 10. The rotors may be made of transparent plastic.
