Abstract

850,339. De-icing aerofoils electrically. GOODRICH CO., B. F. Oct. 14, 1958 [Oct. 14, 1957], No. 32776/58. Class 39(3). The wing tips of an aerofoil are heated by electrical resistances 37 to 41 embedded in or between thermo setting plastic layers 36 between an outer and inner layer 42, 43 of insulating fabric, e.g. woven fibreglass, all covered by an outside metal sheet 35 of aluminium, stainless steel &c. The assembly adheres to a recessed leading edge of the aerofoil by a thin film of nitrile rubber and phenolic resin mixture and also by rivets.
