Abstract
850,111. Fire-fighting apparatus. ANSULCHEMICAL CO. Feb. 13, 1958, No. 4733/58. Class 47. A fire-extinguishing nozzle mounted on a turret and adjustable to a selected angle of elevation is associated with means for controlling the velocity and shape of the emitted stream in correlation with the angle of elevation of the nozzle. In Fig. 2 a telescopic nozzle 7 for a dry chemical fire extinguishing agent is pivotally mounted on a turret 5 and the outermost nozzle section 7a is connected by a link 8 with a raised fixed boss 11 on the turret. In the position shown in solid lines the nozzle produces a stream 4 of maximum range, but upon depressing the inclination of the nozzle to the position shown in dotted lines the link 8 causes shortening of the nozzle whereby a broader, lower velocity stream 3 is produced. The nozzle is of the type disclosed in Canadian Specification 514,788. In modifications the nozzle is of a kind, disclosed in Canadian Specification 466,795, having two separate stream bores for producing long and short range streams respectively, controlled by a rotary plug valve which is caused to rotate when the angle of elevation is adjusted between a raised and a depressed position. In one such modification a switch mounted on the handle 12 of the nozzle is actuated by a cam on the turret body which controls a solenoid by which the plug valve is rotated. In another such modification a mercury switch mounted on the nozzle and sensitive to the angle of elevation of the nozzle controls an electric motor which rotates the plug valve.
