Abstract
<PICT:0849838/IV(a)/1> In the production of chip - board or other fibrous pressed boards, chips, &c., previously coated with glue, fall from a conveyer 1 past a switch-bar 2 to regulate the degree of filling of a storage hopper 3 at the lower part of which is roll 4 with pins 4a supplying a conveyer 8 which carries the chips etc. upwardly past a gauge-bar 9 to a roll 10 with curved pins 10a which presses lightly against, and levels the stream of chips and throws back any excess. The chips then fall through a vertical shaft 13 within which are series of comb-like screeningbars 14 set at different angles. Small particles tend to fall between the bars, and larger pieces are directed to the opposite side of the shaft, one side of which has air-inlet openings 15. After falling through separator aprons 25 secured to travelling chains &c. 24, the chips fall on to a press plate 16 on a travelling conveyer 19. The finer particles may be on the underside of the layer on the press plate, or if the direction of movement of the conveyer is reversed at the end of a traverse of the plate and a second layer is deposited, there are finer particles on both the surfaces and coarser particles in the middle. Alternatively, there may be two distributing appliances depositing chips in succession on travelling press plates. Successive plates may overlap slightly on the conveyer which may be in three sections. The edges of the layers of the material thus formed may be shaped by vibrating plates.
