<PICT:0910753/IV(a)/1> <PICT:0910753/IV(a)/2> <PICT:0910753/IV(a)/3> In a wood chipboard manufacturing plant (Fig. 1) glued chips are layered by adjustable scatter rollers 4, 4a on to sheet metal aprons 6 on a conveyer 8, gaps between the aprons being covered over by plates 7, and trough-like collecting devices are provided alongside and over the conveyer edges to collect chip material deposited outside the desired width of strand, classified according to quality if desired. The collecting troughs may (Fig. 2) be defined by fixed walls 10, 101 and tiltable or tapered walls 11, 111 adjustable by a crank 12 to vary the strand width and of increasing height to match the increasing thickness of the strand, or, alternatively (Fig. 4) movable troughs 51, 511 with dependent edging strips 111, 1111 may be used. Pneumatic suction devices 14, 141 (Fig. 2), 141, 1411 (Fig. 4) clear the troughs of surplus chip material which is conveyed to the chip feed hoppers 1, 1a (Fig. 1) for re-use. The plant may include saws 17, 17a and 27, 271 (Fig. 1) for cutting the strand transversely and along its edges, respectively.
