Abstract
849,751. Centrifugal casting - machines. PEARCE, F. C., and FOUNDRY EQUIPMENT Ltd. March 6,1959 [March 8, 1958], No. 7528/58. Claas 83 (1). In a centrifugal casting process, molten metal is placed in a container which is secured to a mouth at the lower end of a mould, and the assembly is rotated about an axis extending upwardly through the container and mould, and tilted so that the metal enters the mould. The sand-lined mould 78 is contained in a holder 74 which is secured in a housing 69 by a ring 76. The housing comprises a tubular shaft 65 held in a bearing- assembly 63 and belt-driven from an electric motor 61. The shaft 65 contains a hollow ejector-rod 79 actuated by a ram 107, Fig. 5, through which rod dressings may be applied to the mouldinterior. A molten metal container holding the correct quantity of metal for one casting is clamped to the bottom of the mould by spring-loaded clamps 90, being lifted into position by a forked arm 96 actuated by a pneumatic cylinder 62. The complete mould assembly is mounted on a plate 47 which is adjustably secured to stub-shafts 43, 44, in bearings 42, so that after rotation commences about the vertical axis, said axis may be tilted into a horizontal plane by a pneumatic cylinder and lever 110, 108. A cam 113, Fig. 5, on the shaft 44 operates on a slidable block 115 to restrict the supply to the cylinder 110 towards the end of its stroke, to cushion the movement.
