Abstract
1342054 Casting machines CORAMEL SRL 7 Feb 1972 [22 May 1971] 5604/72 Heading B3F [Also in Division B8] Means for metering molten metal, e.g. aluminium for casting, comprises a container 43 arranged to be plunged into the metal in a crucible 47 for filling to the level of a discharge weir 43A and a plunger 39 for positioning in the container 43, the plunger 39 being positioned within the container 43 during filling, withdrawn to prevent spilling during transfer of the container 43 to a position above a mould, and advanced to controlled extent to displace a required volume of metal into the mould. The container 43 is supported by arms 41 from a casing 11 mounted on tubular rods 9, the rods 9 being pivotably supported on a head 5, angularly adjustable on a vertically movable column 3 by piston/cylinder means 48. An arm 27 supported from the casing 11 through a link 29 and piston/cylinder means 25 supports a further piston/cylinder arrangement 33-35A mounting the plunger 39. With the container 43 within the crucible 47 and the plunger 39 located within the container 43 at a position governed by a limit switch (49), Fig. 5 (not shown), for contacting the metal, the container 43 fills to the level of the weir 43A. During raising of the container by means of upward movement of the column 3, the piston/cylinder means 25 partially withdraws the plunger 39, and the means 48 is then actuated to position the container 43 for pouring into the mould. Actuation of the means 33-35A to advance the plunger 39 then effects pouring, the plunger stroke being limited by engagement of adjacent turns of a coil spring 23, compressed by a flange 37A of a connecting rod 37. A support sleeve 21 of the spring 23 is vertically adjustable to set the plunger stroke by means of a screwed connection to a gear 13, rotatable through a worm screw 15 on a shaft located within one of the rods 9 and driven by a motor 19. The plunger stroke determines the quantity poured.
