Abstract

1,266,063. Casting machines. RESPOND Inc. 11 April, 1969 [30 April, 1968], No. 18720/69. Heading B3F. [Also in Divisions F3-F4] Ladling apparatus for transferring molten metal from a holding furnace 14 to the shot cylinder 24 of a die casting machine 12 comprises a cylindrical housing 44 pivotally mounted by a horizontal pin 40 carried by a base 30 and supporting a rotatable sleeve 88 carrying a ladle 84. The housing 44 is oscillatable about pin 40 by a fluid motor 48 between a position in which the ladle 84 dips into the molten metal in furnace 14 and a second position in which it discharges the metal through sleeve 88 engaging a cut-away saddle 96 in a pipe 90 feeding the shot cylinder 24. The base 30 is on a stem 32 adjustably and telescopically mounted in a support 34. The ladle 84 (Fig. 5) is generally semi-cylindrical in shape with a top wall covering half the upper diametral open surface, the remainder of the open surface forming the entry/exit opening for the metal. The housing 44 and therefore the sleeve 88 and ladle 84 is rotated by chain and sprocket drive 68 actuated by motor 74, the degree of rotation of said ladle controlling the quantity of metal discharged into the shot cylinders. This is controlled automatically by a timer and by cams on a ring 120 near the sprocket drive engaging limit switches in a control circuit (Figs. 6 and 7).
