Abstract

1,101,719. Continuous casting. TUXON BRONZE Ltd. 6 Dec., 1965 [7 Dec., 1964], No. 49764/64. Heading B3F. To overcome adhesion to the mould, a continuously-cast solid or tubular bar is extracted by jaws 14 which intermittently grip and release the bar and rotate and advance the bar axially at each gripping stage. The mould may be static or reciprocated. The jaws 14 are mounted for radial movement in a cylinder which encircles the horizontal or inclined bar and are carried by a chain 20 secured at one end to the cylinder and at the other end at 40 to a handle 8. By pulling the handle, first the jaws are moved to grip the cast bar (or starter-bar) and then the cylinder and bar are rotated through a part-revolution. By virtue of the movement of a roller 15 in an adjustable cam member 62, the cylinder and bar are also moved axially slightly to extract the bar. The cylinder is held while the handle is returned to open the jaws 14 ready to repeat the movement. The operation may be automatic. The cylinder (3, 4), Fig. 1 (not shown), is mounted, for the limited rotation and reciprocation, in a housing (1, 2) having ball. ended screws (12) for supporting the bar.
