An adjustable cam actuating a follower 19 comprises an inner eccentric 7, an outer eccentric 1 of substantially equal eccentricity, and an interposed sleeve 9 which is rotatable on the eccentric 7 and is rectilinearly slidable in a mortise 11 in the eccentric 1. Rotation of the eccentric 7 relative to the eccentric 1, by means of a knob 12, causes the outer eccentric to move along a line at right-angles to the mortise 11 and thus varies the compound eccentricity. The angular position of this line relative to the shaft 6 may be adjusted either by direct manipulation of the eccentric 1 (Fig. 11, not shown) or by means of a knob 15 on the shaft of a plate 4 having a radial mortise engaged by a tenon 3 on the eccentric 1, the tenon 3 lying at rightangles to the mortise 11. The follower 19 may actuate the tool carrier of a thread-cutting machine when the cam-shaft 6 is rotated through an angle of 90 degrees or less. The knobs 12, 15 carry scales to facilitate adjustment of the cam to vary respectively the throw of the cam and the arcuate portion thereof which is engaged by the follower. Locking- means such as a nut 18 may be provided. The provision of the sleeve 9 is stated to simplify the scales for the adjusting-knobs. Specifications 624,612 and 636,664 are referred to.
