Abstract

634,518. Turret-lathes. CONE AUTOMATIC MACHINE CO., Inc. May 23, 1947, No. 13959. Convention date, April 17, 1946. [Class 83 (iii)] Automatic lathes and like machine tools have actuating mechanism for one or more tool slides comprising a rocker, an element arranged substantially parallel to the rocking axis of said rocker and pivoted eccentrically to the rocker, connections between said element and slide causing rocking of said rocker to move said slide, said connections being adjustable to vary the motion of said slide, and means accessible at the rear end of the slide remote from the tool for effecting the adjustment. A four-spindle work-turret automatic lathe has a tool-slide 16, Fig. 4, provided for each spindle. Each slide carries a slotted guide member 45 rotatably adjustable from the outside of the slide by a spindle 52 with a graduated collar 53 which rotates the guide member through worm gearing 50, 51. A block 47, Fig. 3, slides in the slot 46 of the guide member and is carried eccentrically by a stud 48 in a rocker member 42 mounted in the support member 17 for the slide. A roller 37 on the rocker, secured to the side opposite that in which the stud 48 is pivoted, engages a cam groove 36 in a cammember 35 secured to a vertical shaft 31. A separate cam-member is provided for each tool slide but those operating the front tool slides are carried by the same vertical shaft, a similar arrangement is provided for the rear tool slides. The shafts 31 are coupled through bevel gearing to a common overhead driving shaft 10. The cams 35 are arranged to give rapid idle traverse and slow working motion to the tool-slides in different proportions by adjusting the angular settings of the guide members 45. Specification 456,284 is referred to.
